Brief CV for Roland Schäfer

Roland Schäfer, born in 1949, comes from Lemgo (Lippe County). After doing his national service, he studied law in Bielefeld from 1969 to 1974. Following his legal internship and a spell as an academic assistant at Bielefeld University, as from 1983 he was employed by the district administration and in North Rhine-Westphalia’s Ministry of the Interior. In 1988, Roland Schäfer was elected by the Bergkamen Town Council as Town Clerk, and in 1998 was elected by the same body as the first full-time mayor. He was confirmed in this office by direct elections in 1999, 2004, 2009 an 2014. Roland Schäfer has since 1990 been a member of the Presidiums at StGB NRW and DStGB, and in October 2002 had for the first time assumed the office of President in the StGB NRW. In addition, Roland Schäfer had already been alternately President and 1st Deputy President of the German Local Authorities Confederation.
